This book covers decade in the life of the company, a significant decade as it covered the period of WWII when the company was employed on the build up of crated military vehicles that had been shipped in CKD form from the United States and Canada. Glass plate negatives which reveal some of the company's activities in this area have only recently come to light and many are reproduced here in this book. Military vehicles of all types are featured being re-assembled on Pearson premises whilst Liverpool's streets provide the backdrop for legions of military softskin hardware - Dukws, Ward La France wreckers, Diamond T type 980 heavy tractors, Mack dumptrucks; jeeps, Federal and Studebaker trucks, trailers and so much more. Tracked and armoured types also feature. Other images feature study shots of CMP types, ambulances delivered back from North Africa, Bedfords plus other types that Pearsons were involved in either refurbishing or rebuilding. After the war the company was engaged in converting military vehicles for civilian commercial use (remember what new UK production there was at the time was destined for export in order to earn much needed foreign exchange). Pearsons activity in the coach building also feature and Bedford OWBs are pictured being rebodied with less austere bodywork for their future peacetime role. All in all a fascinating book whose intriguing images are complemented by considerable and informative captioning. 144p pages, 200 + b/w photos. hardback
