AEC Matador - Taking the Rough with the SmoothThis new book celebrates the AEC Matador 0853 and 0854, the first of which entered military service some 70 years ago. The first section focuses on the four wheel 0853 which was used in a number of guises by the military - such as general purpose troop carrier, radio van, platform lorry, gun tractor, armoured commmand vehicle etc. the second section majors on its bigger brother, the six wheeled variant (0)854 which saw service mainly with the RAF as a fuel bowser and as a crane carrier equipped with a Coles crane. The third part of the book comprises an appendix with a number of articles and related features: Military colours; AEC types; Ir ish Matadors; FWD Hardy and AEC; The Douglas Timber Tractor; Flaming AECs (petroleum warfare types; AEC 1912-1979; Getting to Grips with All Wheel Drive; Surviving AEC 0853/(0)854 vehicles which lists some 200 surviving examples. The book features some 98 black & white and 60 colour pictures, mainly of military examples but each section features a selection of pictures of some of the many examples that found work in the civilian world after they were 'demobbed'.
